Summary

Cement organic concrete mixtures (COCM) combine the advantages of asphalt and cement
and are largely devoid of their shortcomings. COCM is a kind of paving concrete mixes that are
prepared by sequential treatment of sand and crushed stone mixtures with cement and organic binder.
Grains of sand and crushed stone mixtures in concrete containing COCM are combined together in a
solid material due to forces of cohesion and adhesion of cement and organic binder. Therefore, the
properties of such concrete are intermediate between the properties of cement and asphalt. To ensure
hydration of cement in COCM, organic binder in the form of an aqueous suspension (paste) is used
which is formed directly during mixing of the components of the mixture.
To prepare these mixtures, thinned bitumen or bituminous emulsions (including modified),
goudron (tar), etc. can be used. The content of organic binder and cement is much lower than that
required for the preparation of asphalt and cement-concrete.
Cement organic concrete has sufficiently high strength both in dry and in water-saturated state.
Its strength at 50 °C is not less than 75 % of the strength at 20 °C which prevents occurrence of
rutting, slides and other deformations on the pavements based on COCM. It can withstand more than
50 cycles of alternating freezing and thawing which along with its high heat and water resistance
properties ensure better performance and higher durability of pavements.
COCM based pavements do not require cutting the expansion joints.
Technology of preparation and use of COCM is not only resources saving but it is also quite
effective in technical, environmental and economic terms
