Summary

It is considered new materials for protective layers of asphalt pavements. It is analyzed the experience of application of these materials in Ukraine and abroad. The results of monitoring about 20 areas of roads, where material "Dizol" was used to protect asphalt surfaces, were considered. The benefits and problems of application of protective layers were noted. The results of monitoring areas, where bitumen-rubber band was applied, have showed that its application in technological joints was more effective than to seal cracks, especially in intensive traffic condition. These examples show that the question of effectiveness of any technology or material can be solved most productively through monitoring. This information can be used to improve decision-making and as a feedback in the detection of successful attempts and failures.
