Summary

Introduction. The main reasons for the occurrence of traffic accidents are outlined. The ranking of countries on mortality in road accidents (road traffic accidents) is presented. The work of scientists is analyzed in relation to the reduction of the accident rate and the severity of the consequences of traffic accidents.

Problem Statement. The absence or insufficient amount of information about the level of accidents, the reasons for their occurrence does not allow determining their location for a reasoned planning of measures to identify deficiencies in road conditions.

Purpose. The purpose of the work is to identify and analyze the disadvantages in road conditions that contribute to the occurrence of a particular type of accident.

Materials and methods. In determining the list of shortcomings that affect the occurrence of traffic accidents, the methods of comparison and identification were used, as well as the materials  of the Road Safety Management (RSM) branch database which was created in the State  Enterprise «DerzhDorNDI».

Results. The list of deficiencies in the road conditions which contribute to the occurrence of this type of road accident is given. The analysis of statistical data on determination of the most frequent types of accidents is carried out. As a result of the analysis of accidents and defects affecting their occurrence, it has been determined that accidents occur under well-defined circumstances that are constantly repeated and the same accident situations are common to each type of road accident. To achieve reduction of traffic accidents and severity of their consequences is possible by improving road conditions.

Conclusion. One of the priority areas for reducing the number and severity of road accidents is to improve road conditions on the existing network of highways. This is possible by improving the road traffic management and developing and implementing the road safety measures.

To determine the impact of deficiencies in road conditions, it is necessary to use a statistical analysis of road traffic accident data.

To obtain a positive result in reducing the number of accidents and their consequences, it is necessary to study the causes of accidents, determine the areas of their localization and reasonably plan measures to eliminate deficiencies that increase the probability of an accident.

Results for defining the road conditions can be implemented in the Road Safety Audit. This will help reduce the number of points of conflict on the roads and assess the effectiveness of the implemented road safety measures.

The above mentioned will provide the necessary system for solving the traffic safety issues and will create certain guarantees of the effectiveness of the measures being developed.
