Introduction. The introduction to the paper outlines the advantages and types of rigid road pavement and current problems of functioning of jointed concrete pavements.
Problem statement. The issues of the paper concern the functioning of deformation joints of jointed plain concrete pavement (JPCP), the role and position of dowels and tie bar in such joints, and modern approaches to quality control of reinforcement installation works.
Purpose. The purpose of the paper is to analyze foreign primary sources concerning requirements for the accuracy of location and alignment of dowel bars, criteria and possibilities of monitoring compliance with these requirements using a non-destructive testing method, and practices for adjusting payments to contractors.
Results. An analysis of the functions of reinforcement in transverse and longitudinal deformation joints of JPCP and the requirements for the accuracy of the positioning of reinforcement in the constructed joints, taking into account reinforcement functions, was performed.
According to foreign primary sources, the requirements of the ACPA, on the basis of which work on the construction of transverse deformation joints of the JPCP is accepted, were considered, in particular the requirements regarding dowels rejection in case of inadequate quality of work.
The practices of adjusting payment based on the results of quality control of work on the installation of dowel bar were analyzed.
Conclusions. Conclusions are provided on the need to focus attention on the development of a set of standards for the design and construction of rigid concrete road pavement, covering standards that ensure quality control of work. Qualitative and quantitative criteria for accepting work on the installation of reinforcement in transverse contraction joints of JPCP were proposed for processing and the feasibility of developing a system for adjusting payment to the contractor based on the results of quality control of work was indicated.
